Nice tutorial! I built WordPress sites for a long time as a freelancer, and wrote lots of these little buggers. Now that I'm sort of retired and focusing on writing fiction, I'm using Substack as my homebase on the web. I figure it will work just fine until I have something to sell. At that point, it will be worth the time and effort to set up a WordPress site again.

Good job, Russell! I know how hard it is to write a step by step article like this. I've written a similar tutorial, but without using Wordpress - just plain old html, css and some javascript.

Thanks! It was very annoying but rewarding now that it's done, like all website design :)

I made it to the end. I'm very intrigued. I hadn't thought about setting up my own personal author site because I didn't see myself as an author (just yet!) However, I appreciate how you've shown us step by step how to do so.

If I'm being realistic, I would likely get about half way through (just past the boring stuff) and want to make it pretty, get frustrated, give up and then hire someone. It would hurt my brain to keep trying and I love a pretty website.

This is so informative. Thanks Russell for at least letting us know what's possible!
