This is the most comprehensive guide to building your author career I've ever made (outside of a book), filled with practical strategies for balancing productivity, monetization, and more
I really appreciate what you say about the writers who write because they are writers and the people who write to make money. If I wanted to make money I’d do anything else. My main strategy is to live a super-thrifty life so I can afford to write. Being able to afford to live by writing is the ultimate luxury.
I found this a really useful article. I've been slowly reading it over the course of a few days whilst on holiday. As a writer who is looking to release my first book in the coming months, I found the points on setting targets, finding my 'win condition', and identifying which marketing methods resonate with me personally, all really useful content. Thanks so much for writing and sharing.
Wow this is incredible. Every time I follow my "passion" I end up defeated bc 1) adhd 2) the marketing aspect . The thought of marketing myself /my writing is - daunting. Lots of food for thought in this blog.
I took away so much from this article - thanks Russel. I just wondered if you have any resources, articles or suggestions for how to start some of these things while I work on getting my first book out, when I don't have a product to work with yet? Growth/audience building tactics, etc so when the book is out I've done some of the groundwork. Thanks
We have resources for all of them, but each one has steps in the article so I am not sure what you want to get started on that is not described in detail in the article. https://www.theauthorstack.com/p/nonfiction

Love it.
Talk about a Christmas present. Thanks, Russell!
You're welcome!
Thanks Russell, there’s a lot to unpack here. Will have to re-read a few more times to really dig into it.
You’re welcome@

This is a helpful guide. I love how you point out the importance of figuring out what feels like a “win” and how it varies by individual. Thanks!
It’s so important. Glad it resonated :)
Thank you, impressive and generous.
You’re welcome!
Talk about a reference guide 😮. I haven't even read a third and it's already helping me plan for my own publication. Thanks so much 😊!

Thank you for this generous summary. There is much here that I hope to apply, and it is appreciated!
Summary? I don’t think a 16k article is a summary, but you’re welcome!
Overview?
Detailed how-to-do-it better?
Whatever works. I am just happy it’s helpful.
