Since January 2018 I have been using inorganic growth through group giveaways to grow my list exponentially and very quickly. I also run group giveaways myself, roughly 1-2 times a month. This is my experience with them through my first 12 months.
In all, I participated in 52 mailing list builders in 2018. Of that number, I ran 17 builders myself. You can request access to all my data here:

So what did I learn? Across all builders, the average cost for a new subscriber (one who has never been on any of my lists before) was $.05. However, that was heavily skewed by the fact that all of my builders ran at under $.10, while the average builder run by other people was well north of $.10 per new subscriber.
My builders averaged $.03 per new subscriber and accounted for 56094 new subscribers across 17 builders.
